Your Biggest Resource Isn’t Time or Money. It’s Your Energy.

For a long time, it made sense to me that money isn’t our biggest resource.

Money comes and goes. We can earn it, lose it, save it, and make more of it. If we really look at what money is becoming today, more and more it is simply numbers on a screen.

Yet those numbers still have so much influence over how we perceive our lives, the choices we make, what we think we can or cannot do, and sometimes even how we perceive ourselves.

So if money isn’t our biggest resource, then what is?

For a while, I thought it was time, because time is something we cannot get back. But the more I looked at it, the more I realized that even time isn’t our biggest resource.

Our biggest resource is our energy.

By energy, I mean the mental, emotional, physical, and creative capacity we have available to meet our lives. I think this becomes especially important during times of change, because we begin looking differently at how we work, how we create, what we give to others, and what we receive in return.

From money to time to energy

We can look at this almost as different levels of exchange.

At the first level, we look at money. I do something for you, and I receive something in return.

Then we begin valuing our time. I put three hours into this. What did I receive in return for those three hours?

But there is another level that we don’t always consider:

How did those three hours leave me feeling?

Let’s say you spend several hours doing something and get paid well for it. Technically, it was a good exchange. But afterward, you feel completely depleted.

Now imagine another situation. You spend the same amount of time doing something, and perhaps you receive the same compensation. Perhaps it is less. Perhaps there isn’t an immediate financial return.

But afterward, you feel alive. You feel inspired and fulfilled. You feel as though you contributed something meaningful to another person or to the world around you.

Which one would you choose?

Suddenly, we are not measuring only what we received. We are also looking at who we become and how we feel through the process of creating it.

This does not mean that every meaningful task will feel easy or energizing in the moment. Some things require a great deal from us and are still deeply worthwhile. The deeper question is whether the exchange ultimately connects us to what matters, or whether depletion has simply become our normal way of operating.

Why energy changes everything

We can have the exact same amount of time available and create completely different things with it depending on our energy.

Think about one hour when you are exhausted, mentally overwhelmed, and forcing yourself to keep going. Now think about one hour when you are inspired, clear, connected, and excited about what you are creating.

Same hour. Completely different experience. Completely different result.

The amount of time did not change. Your available energy did.

This is why I believe our energy deserves more of our attention.

What is depleting it?

What is renewing it?

Where are we giving it away automatically?

What makes us feel more alive?

These questions are not about avoiding everything difficult. They can help us notice which efforts are connected to meaning, purpose, and genuine contribution, and which ones repeatedly leave us disconnected from ourselves.

Because people feel the difference

We are living in a time when information is everywhere. If we are looking for information, we can usually find it.

So increasingly, what matters is not simply what we know. It is what another person experiences when they receive it from us.

Two people can say almost exactly the same thing, yet we may feel completely different listening to each one. One gives us information. The other makes us feel something.

We feel their enthusiasm, their connection to what they are doing, their belief in it, and their desire to contribute something meaningful.

The energy and human presence behind what we create become part of what we are offering.

We may naturally feel drawn toward experiences that leave us feeling inspired, connected, or more alive. Not because the information is necessarily different, but because the experience of receiving it is.

This is also where I believe abundance begins to look different.

Instead of asking only, “How much money will I receive from this?” or “Is this worth my time?” another question becomes possible:

What is the energetic exchange here?

Some things require a lot from us and are still deeply worth doing. Others may look very successful from the outside while continually leaving us depleted inside.

Perhaps part of creating our lives more consciously is learning to recognize the difference.

What are you creating within yourself?

Money matters. Time matters. But our energy influences what we can actually do with both.

When we create from fullness, connection, and a genuine desire to contribute, we are not simply giving something to the world. We are creating more life within ourselves at the same time.

That does not require abandoning practical responsibilities or expecting every task to feel inspiring. It may begin with noticing the exchange more honestly.

What asks a great deal from you but still feels meaningful?

What leaves you depleted without bringing you closer to what matters?

Where might a different choice, boundary, rhythm, or form of support protect more of your energy for the life you want to create?
